PRE-VACATION CRAZINESS

By Karen

I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off. This is it. Tomorrow we have to leave the house around 5:00 a.m. so if it doesn’t get done today, it ain’t gettin’ done!

My parents will be here any time. We’re all flying to California together. They’re going to spend the whole time in San Diego. We’re going to head to Disneyland and then meet back up with them in San Diego next Tuesday.

I think I have it all set so you have something to read every day. I’ve got my auto-post feature set up, and you should be entertained while I’m gone. It was my goal to pre-write posts for every day I’m away. I figured if I set it up this way, the cat won’t feel obligated to take over the blog in my absence! Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the posts! Comment all you want. I’ll be able to read the comments, but since typing on an iPhone is tricky (think fat fingers) I won’t be able to respond.

And here’s some big news…..Mike was featured on the FRONT PAGE of the Springfield News Sun!!! Way to go, Dr. Mike!! Here’s a link to his article:

Mike’s Front Page Debut

It included a picture, but I’ll just post one we took recently so the quality is better. Here is where Dr. Mike does his magic:

Ok, faithful readers, I’m out of here for now. Try to behave yourselves while I’m gone!

SOME NEWS AND A NICK-ISM

By Karen

A big “HEY” to all of you out there in bloggyland! Just giving you a couple of updates here……

The carnival of family life is posted for this week. It’s over at Mom on Wheels. I submitted my guest post that I did at Dawn’s place. Figured I didn’t have enough people laughing about my life, so why not invite more? If you’re looking for over there, I’m listed in the “Kids, Kids, and More Kids” section. Not sure why I’m there since the kids had absolutely nothing to do with the post. Oh gosh, unless she knows something that I don’t! OH NO! Big news about that post…..Dawn says she got more comments on that post than she did on any other post on her blog (other than memes she’s done). Wow, what an honor. I guess it’s because of the topic. It brings out the perverts commenters.

Keep entering my Tastefully Simple contest. Remember, one lucky winner will get a $25 Tastefully Simple gift certificate and an exclusive Hostess gift! Remember you have until the end of October to enter. Buy why wait and risk forgetting? Go enter now!

And here’s a Nick-ism for you…..
KT and Nick auditioned for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow about a month ago (they didn’t get in). While Nick was on stage during the singing audition, KT was sitting with all of her friends. One after another, her friends were making comments about Nick. In a voice only pre-teen girls can muster, they said things like, “Oh my gosh, he is so0000 cute.” And, “He’s soooooo adorable!” And, “If he doesn’t get cast, I’m going to be very mad!”

The next day, KT was relaying this story to us. Nick was beaming and then said, “Yeah, I have that effect on the ladies.”

(sigh) Where does he get this stuff? Don’t worry, he’ll be here all week!

Well, actually, that’s not true. He’s leaving with the rest of us. We’re heading to California for a family vacation. I’m working frantically to write up some posts that will auto-post while I’m gone. I’ve strung you along this far, I don’t want to leave you hanging!

On the auditioning topic, KT auditioned for High School Musical last week and got a call back. Now we’re waiting to hear if she was cast or not. Keep your fingers crossed. This is the one show she’s been waiting MONTHS to audition for and she wants this show more than she’s wanted any other!

That’s it for now. Back to school and preparing for the trip.

MEME SUNDAY–HIGH SCHOOL SPIRIT

By Karen

Holyname

I didn’t get tagged for any memes this week, so I had to lift one off of another blog. Rock ‘n’ Writer, a blog I just found today, had an open tag on the High School Spirit Meme, so that’s my selection for Meme Sunday.

1. Who was your best friend? Stephanie, Sandi, and Kathy

2. Did you play any sports? Nope

3. What kind of car did you drive? I didn’t get my license until I graduated.

4. It’s Friday night. Where were you? More than likely, I was at home. I lived 30 minutes from my high school (private school) and participating in extra-curriculars wasn’t easy.

5. Were you a party animal? No

6. Were you considered a flirt? No

7. Were you in the band, orchestra, or choir? No

8. Were you a nerd? Yup

9. Were you ever suspended or expelled? No

10. Can you sing the fight song? Nope. And not the alma mater either.

11. Who was your favorite teacher? Ms. Anderson–Spanish

12. What was your school mascot? A Green Wave (ok, that’s just lame)

13. Did you go to the Prom? Yes

14. If you could go back, would you? Not a chance

15. What do you remember most about graduation? Saying goodbye to friends.

16. Where were you on Senior Skip Day? I don’t think we had one. If we did, us nerds didn’t know about it!

17. Did you have a job your senior year? Yes. As a nursing assistant.

18. Where did you go most often for lunch? The cafeteria

19. Have you gained weight since then? Uh….yeah!

20. What did you do after graduation? Worked all summer and then went to nursing school.

21. What year did you graduate? 1986

22. Who was your senior prom date? Matt Bedell

23. Are you going/did you go to your 10 year reunion? Nope. And not my 15 or 20th either.

I’m leaving this how I found it…..an open tag. If you want to relive your high school memories (gasp), feel free to play along.

(SIGH)

By Karen

My day started pretty crappy. First off, we got together with some of our old college friends last night. One of my roomies was in town from Connecticut and so a bunch of us went out to dinner. We were all chatting away and suddenly realized it was 11:30 p.m! We got home around 12:30 and were snuggled into bed at 1:00! (sigh)

Then, at 7:00 a.m., Mike’s brother called. Unmarried with no children, he has no concept of what is too early (or too late) to call. (sigh)

The phone woke up Nick, who came into our bathroom to pee. He then grabbed the cat, came to my side of the bed and said, “Can I lay down with you?” (sigh)

Sure, but first I had to get up and pee. So I headed to our bathroom, sat down, and my entire butt got wet. (sigh)

Then I grumbled at Nick about the pee on the seat and told him he was going to clean the bathroom today. (sigh)

Then I realized it was blazing hot in our room and I just could not get comfortable to go back to sleep. (sigh)

So I’ve been up and cleaning all morning. Why am I cleaning? Because of this problem. The only difference is, change the “Friday morning” to “Wednesday morning” and “Florida” to “California.” Oh, yeah, and change the “8:00 a.m. flight” to a “7:00 a.m. flight.” (sigh)

Nevermind the laundry and packing which I haven’t started. (sigh)

SATURDAY PHOTO HUNT–PAPER

By Karen

This week’s theme is “Paper.” I scoured through my photo library and just didn’t have anything that screamed “paper” at me. So I’m going in a slightly different direction…..anti-paper! Here’s a picture of our Christmas tree surrounded by gifts. Not one of them is wrapped in paper. Instead, I bought Christmas fabrics (on sale after the holiday) and used my serger to make reusable gift bags. It caught on in my family and I’ve since made hundreds of bags for my siblings and parents. It makes wrapping gifts sooooooooooo fast and easy!

2006 Christmas 020

I won’t be here next Saturday, but my photo should be set to auto-post, so feel free to swing on by!
