A good blogging friend of mine has started her own Christmas card company. I’ve known about this for a couple of weeks, and had it queued up in my “idea box” to write about her cards. I hadn’t gotten to it yet when I found out about the giveaway. I decided I’d do one better than just telling you about the company, I’d give a $30 store credit to her online shop!!

So, here’s the deal….

Go check out Card My Christmas and peruse all of the wonderful Christmas cards. Come back here and leave me a comment with your favorite design. I will take comments from now until 11:59p.m. on Friday, November 2nd. A winner will be drawn using random.org on Saturday, November 3rd and the winner will be announced on Pediascribe and will be contacted by email.

You must have a valid email address to win. You do NOT need to have a blog. Once the winner is notified, you can place your order at Card My Christmas following the order process on the site. The $30 credit will get you one pack of cards in certain styles and will pay for shipping to the US. You are more than welcome to choose more expensive cards, more expensive finishes, more than one box, and have it shipped wherever you’d like, but please be aware that any amount over $30 will be your responsibility to pay via Paypal. If this is not acceptable to you, please do not enter this contest.

SUNDAY MEME–DESKTOP CAPTURE

By Karen

Dawn from Coming to a Nursery Near You AND Patricia from Pollywog Creek both tagged me for this meme. Basically it shows what is on your desktop. No, not this desktop, the desktop on the computer!

Here’s how you play:

A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. PC people: You can do a screen capture by going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key). Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V). If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it. MAC people: You can do a screen capture using Grab.

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Desktop Capture shot of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to the list of participants with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Capture post to promote it to succeeding participants. The list will keep getting longer and longer!!!

So here is my desktop*:

Desktopcapture

I’ve got a couple of pictures on there that I was using for blog posts. A DVD I’m editing with some footage taken at our zoo. A presentation for middle school students with strategies for studying. Then the icons for my hard drive and iDisk–which I never click on otherwise I’ll probably mess something up. My dock contains only the things I use on a regular basis.

If I let my desktop get too cluttered, Mike makes comments about how messy it is.

*When this post goes live, my desktop will look much different because of the Leopard install.

So tag 5 of your bloggy friends and add them to the bottom of this list:

The list already had:
Dawn @ Coming to a Nursery Near You
Karen @ Pediascribe
Stacey @ Jamee Forever
Meredith @ Pregnantly Plump
Karly @ Wiping Up Snot
MelodyAnn @ ShooFly
and I tag:
Awesome Mom @ Adventures of an Awesome (Sometimes) Mother
Deb @ Mom of 3 Girls
Jenny @ Absolutely Bananas
Kailani @ An Island Life
Diatribal @ Muzakosis

SUNDAY MEME-10-20-30 VIRUS

By Karen

spaghettipie over at Stewardship Living tagged me for the 10-20-30 meme. It’s really a fairly simple meme……if you have a good memory. For me, not so easy, but I’ll give it my best shot!

The rules: Quick, what were you you doing ten, twenty, and thirty years ago?

Ten years ago….let’s see, that was October of 1997. I had a 3 year old and a 9 month old. We were living in Hilliard. Mike was doing a year ER fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (formerly known as Columbus Children’s Hospital) and I was working very very part time as a nurse at Hilliard Pediatrics (like one Saturday morning every 8 weeks!)

Twenty years ago…..that would have been October of 1987. I was starting my sophomore year at Ohio Wesleyan University. All my pre-reqs were out of the way so now I was beginning the intensive nursing classes and clinicals. I had moved to Welch Hall on campus with roommates I chose (unlike freshman year when the university, in some sick psychological experiment, chose the people who were the MOST unlike me as my roommates). It was the year that Mike and I went our own ways after having been great friends freshman year. It was his fault–he moved to a stinky dorm, became an RA, and got a girlfriend.

Thirty years ago…..October of 1977. Hmmm, that was a long time ago. I was starting 4th grade at Copopa Elementary School. My teacher was Mrs. Hermann. It was the year I had to take a week off because I had chicken pox. Only to find out that I either didn’t acquire an immunity or it actually wasn’t chicken pox…..which explains why I got them freshman year of college. It was also the year one of my friends died from a heart condition. It was the year I had to wear a flash card around my neck that said, “Ask me what 6×8 is.” It was the year of the “honor bracelet” and the year I was a bus “crier.” Basically that meant I watched which busses pulled into the lot and then went from room to room throughout the whole school announcing which busses were ready for loading.

Wow, I remember more than I thought I would and it didn’t even require hypnosis or therapy!

Open tag for whoever would like to play!

SATURDAY PHOTO HUNT–PINK

By Karen

This week’s theme is “Pink.” Here you have my cat taking over my daughter’s Lunablanket. It’s filled with all sorts of shades of pink! It was only on the floor for about 3 seconds when he came and claimed on it. Typical cat.

If you’re intrigued by the Lunablanket, don’t forget to swing by KT’s review of Lunapads and also my contest for a free Lunapad Intro Kit!

I’m off to the Apple Store to buy Leopard. I’ll visit your Photos as soon as I can.
