KLEAN REVIEW AND A NEW CONTEST

Posted by Karen on Jul 06 2007

Heaven, I’m in Heaven. I just had to write and tell you about how refreshed and revitalized I feel! Yes, I did it. I had a little “mom-time.” I didn’t go shopping, or out to dinner with friends, or even to an actual grown-up movie. All I did was get into the shower. And now you’re probably thinking, “Doesn’t she do that every day?”

I usually do. But I typically get in with a bar of Lever2000 or whatever body wash was on sale at CVS last week. This time, though, I stepped into the shower armed with my Klean. If you’ll remember, I posted about how I was going to test out a few of their products. Now I want to share with you what I found.

First, I have to show you how beautiful these look–all packaged up and straight out of the box!

It took me a couple of days to be able to sneak away and try them. I surely didn’t want to use something this nice during my 6 minute shower in the morning! So while Mike was home and distracting the kids, I created my own little spa day! I started with the Brown Sugar Body Polish in the shower. Wow! This stuff smells wonderful. Good enough to put on a big bowl of oatmeal! I put a marble sized glob of it on my loofa and started to scrub away. The smell was just heavenly! I noticed a few things. First, it’s scratchier than the normal liquid soaps that I use. That did take a bit of getting used to. After all, wasn’t I supposed to be pampering myself, not roughing myself up? But that’s the point of a body scrub. To scrub off all of the layers of dead skin! I could tell it was working! Whereas my regular soap just sort of blobbed on and ran right off, this stuck. I could tell it was doing more than just making me smell pretty! I could feel layer upon layer of old, dead skin sloughing off. It didn’t hurt. In fact, quite the opposite, it was invigorating. It was like my skin felt alive! Something else I noticed was that it was leaving behind a thin layer of smooth oil. Nothing that was making the tub slippery, just enough to re-moisturize my skin.

I did have to load my loofa a few times. It seemed that one blob of the body scrub was about enough for one limb. I don’t know if this is normal for a scrub. Maybe because I had so much old dead skin to scrub off, it was used up prematurely. I’m not sure. The smell lingered with me about 30 minutes. I would have been fine if it lasted all week! Of course, maybe I still smelled good, but I was just used to it. Completely possible.

The second product got used quickly after my shower. I had ordered some shea butter specifically for my scratchy elbows and heels. I’m usually a “plain vanilla” kind of girl, but I thought I’d get whacky. So I got my shea butter in the Klean Grass scent! And, amazingly, it smelled very similar to fresh cut grass. Which was good because then I was less likely to eat it! It came in a fairly small container, but I soon figured out why. A little goes a long way. I put on a glob of it similar to what I would use in a lotion and whoa! It was too much! I could have done with 1/4 of it. It was definitely thicker than lotion, but not as thick as the Eucerin cream I slather onto Nick’s eczema. Since I had so much extra, I was able to get my elbows, heels, hands and arms pretty moisturized.

Third thing to try was the mist. Now this I got in my favorite scent–Very Vanilla. This is advertised as a body, linen, or room scent. I went with “room scent” as I was thinking that THREE scents on my body might be a bit overwhelming! It definitely needs a good shake before use as you can see it settles. A few spritzes around my living room and inhale……aaaahhhhhhh. Ok, this is a great product! My living room smelled heavenly the rest of the day. AND I could even catch whiffs of it the next day! Who needs to do housework when you can just mist your house into smelling good! I haven’t tried it on myself or any clothing yet. I’ve been too busy misting rooms!

Now, the fourth item….I wasn’t too sure about ordering. It’s the essential oil–also in Very Vanilla. I got vanilla because it’s Mike’s favorite scent. And the Klean website has it listed under “massage.” So I was thinking about a little mom AND dad time. (wink) Unfortunately, we’ve been up to our ears in busy here, so this product is going to have to wait a bit to be tested, but based on the rest of it, I’m sure we’ll love it!

Now, the GREAT NEWS for you! I’m giving away a Klean Bath and Body set! Yes, you too can experience these heavenly products! You’ll be able to choose THREE things from the following list: body polish, lotion, body wash, foam soap, essential oil, mister, or a candle. You even get to pick what scents you want for each item!

What’s the catch? This time the contest will not be as easy as just commenting. No, for something THIS good, you need to work for it! After collaboration with Awesome Mom about this contest, she came up with a great idea…..Bloggers post a story from their lives in which their kids got them super ultra icky dirty. It could be dirt and grime, puke or poop, whatever. Something that got all over YOU and made you feel filthy! Something so icky you wanted to take a hot shower ASAP. Just to let you in on a secret….Jennifer, the wonderfully friendly creator of the Klean products has requested poop stories. I know Awesome Mom recently did a poop contest, but Jennifer laughs herself silly with poop stories, so feel free to expound on poop! Post that “dirty” story on your blog with a link back to this contest.

Here’s the contest timeline:
Tuesday, July 17th: Your “dirty” story must be posted on your blog by 5:00 p.m. EST. Post the permalink to your story in the comment section of this post.
I will then have non-biased Pediascribe representatives read through the stories and pick the top TEN.
Thursday, July 19th: Links to the top 10 stories will be posted for you to read through. Pediascribe readers will be the ones to choose the ultimate winner.
Friday, July 20th at 12:00 p.m. EST: Voting will begin here on Pediascribe.
Monday, July 23rd at 12:00 p.m. EST: Voting will end.

*contest limited to those in the United States and Canada. My apologies to my international readers.
**if you have a blog, please post the story ON YOUR BLOG. If you don’t have a blog, you can post your story in the comment section (you must use a valid email address)

Okay … no blog here, but I’d love to share my story.

I am the proud mother of a nine month old. As all mother’s know, babies are not exactly the cleanest when it comes to bodily functions.

We are in the process of introducing solid foods to our daughter. The Stage 3 baby food tend to be a little chunkier than other baby foods. I fed my daughter Macaroni and Cheese (one of her favorites) and everything seemed to go down just fine. About an hour and a half later, my daughter and I were lounging on the couch together … she was just about asleep. Suddenly her eyes opened and she got a strange look on her face. Then … all let loose! Apparently, my daughter did not chew any of her dinner and proceeded to vomit all over the two of us. She started screaming and I hollered for my husband, who had just gotten home from work. By the time he made it to the living room, I was covered in macaroni puke. We put my daughter in a plastic laundry basket (the only thing I could think of that would keep the vomit contained and off the carpet.) I then hobbled into the bathroom, careful not to leave a trail down the hallway, where I stripped down and threw my clothes on the bathroom floor. Then I retrieved the baby from the living room, still crying.

My husband and I stripped her down and added her puky clothing to mine. A bath was definitely in order - for the both of us. We got into the tub and relaxed for a few minutes. Then I handed her off to my husband and began the fabulous task of doing vomit laundry.
