I HOPE SPEECH THERAPY DOESN’T FIX THIS

Nick has a slightly different speech pattern than most of the rest of the world. And it’s just too darn cute. He uses some phrases that you just don’t hear every day. It’s really endearing and makes me hope he never grows out of them.
For example, he uses the phrase “as well” a good bit. As in, “I would like a root beer float as well.” Or, “I already finished my schoolwork as well.” Where most people would use “also” or “too,” Nick uses “as well.”
Another common phrase for him is “but still.” I’m sure it’s not gramatically correct how he uses it, but still. See, that’s what he does. He adds it to the end of a sentence and it’s just too cute. He’ll say, “I know it’s a lot of money to go to Disney World, but still.” Sometimes he’ll use it as a response to what has just been said. For example, I could say, “I don’t know why you don’t like it, this tastes the same as the meat you had last week.” To which he would reply, “Yeah, but still.”
And then there are the times where he just says things in a non-traditional way that make me smile. Like when we went to Brewsters to get an ice cream treat. He wanted a Blast, which is ice cream whipped up with some sort of mix-in candy. He went to the window and said, “I would like a Blast, which is regular size, with Butterfingers please.”
I don’t know what it is about it, but his grammar and syntax is just innocent and sweet to me.

My 4 year old son is in speech therapy. And there are certain things he can’t say that sound really cute in his own way. My mom who has asked to be called Grandma Becky, gets callled Gwamma Ducky, by him, and she just loves it.
I know when I was a kid I always said Nyther(neither) and Eyether(either), still do. =)

I see an English Major in your mist. I think that is adorable, which is regular size, with butterfingers…
My daughter’s was always does it. The clock goes around in circles, does it.

Sounds so cute! I hope it never changes. It really shows off his personality.

I love Nick just the way he is and hopes he never really changes. I especially like when he has minty fresh breath.

I love that! Joshua says “Fuge” instead of “huge” and we don’t correct him cause it’s so cute…I know he’ll figure it out one day though. I hope he’s not mad at us.

My daughter says (and now that I think about it, I don’t hear her say it much these days), “I’ve never be-seen that” as in “I’ve never seen that before.” I think it’s pretty clever (and adorable).

That is one of the *sweetest* posts I’ve ever read from a mom about her child!

This is so sweet! I love the way kids put language together. You have to get him on film (or podcast!!) saying these things so you always have them!

I think all our kids have their little idiosyncrasies when they are learning to talk. I don’t know why it is so cute, but it sure is. One of mine always said “actually.” Which sounds pretty weird coming out of a 3-year-old’s mouth. Another always said, “maybe, either” when she only needed one word or the other. My husband and I were using “maybe, either” way past the time when she had stopped saying it. We sound like idiots, probably.

That’s too cute. I also keep tabs on what my toddler is saying because it’s making me smile. Maybe that’s a mommy thing.

Oh that’s cute. I too hope you can get those little speech things on videotape to remember always - it’s the kind of thing that you never think to tape but always want to remember.
