THE PITTER PATTER OF LITTLE FEET
Posted by Karen on Dec 05 2007
I wanted to share with you some ornaments I made which hold a very dear place in my heart. Way back in 1994, shortly before Christmas, I had an idea pop into my head. I don’t know where it came from, but I’m very thankful it did.
KT was just a baby then–about 5 months old. I took some paper (I think it was tagboard, but card stock from a scrapbooking store would work well too). I used a blue stamp pad and made little prints of her tiny little feet on the paper. I cut them out and then wrote her name and the year on the back. I took them to Kinko’s and had them laminated. Once that was done, I punched a hole in the top of them and threaded two pieces of cross stitch floss (one red, one green) through the hole. Voila….Christmas ornaments! I made extras for family too.
In 1997, I did it again. This time it was with an 11 month old Nick and a brown stamp pad.
Every year I pull out these two ornaments and smile. Smile because it brings back some precious memories of when my kids were tiny babies. Smile because I actually had a thought many years ago that was a good one! Smile because I actually was able to think of and do this project because it’s extremely simple.
So if you have little ones out there, I encourage you to give this easy project a try. It will bring you years of wonderful memories.
Since a picture is worth 1,000 words….here’s 2,000 words for you:

Such a wonderful idea and so easy to do. We often put our babies (pretermers that is) footprints in Christmas cards, Mothers Day cards and Fathers Day cards and as you can imagine, some of them can be so very tiny.
Lots of Love Carolynn

SO cute! I’m so totally wishing that I had little feet to do that with! My kids’ feet aren’t nearly that cute anymore!
I LOVE that!

What a great idea! I wish I’d done something like that with my older girls when they were babies. I do have handprint wreaths/trees that they made in preschool and I love looking at those, but there’s just something so sweet about tiny baby feet.

What a fantastic idea!
I have tiny footprints that were given to me from the NICU staff for Ivy and Noah’s first Christmas. Now I know exactly what I am going to do with them!
I might also do one for them this year… sadly my other children’s feet are way to big now! LOL
When the other children were babies, I took a photo of them and put it in a fram, with some ribbon looped and they go up on our tree every year. We did one for the boys too when we were given permanent guardianship. I haven’t gotten around to Ivy’s and Noah’s yet. Perhaps I can attach the footprints to a photo in some way…
Thanks for this idea! I’ll have to get making!

I have an infant sock on my tree–it’s just such a sweet reminder of how tiny he once was.
