GAS STATION RULES

Warninglabel

The rules at the gas station are pretty easy to follow. In fact, they are right there plastered on every single pump for everyone to see and read. And they are there for our safety, so please follow them. Apparently some out there either don’t know the rules, they are too stupid to follow them, or they just don’t care if they blow themselves (and others) up.

Which is what happened at my last fill-up. No, not the blow up part, but the rule breaker part. I was innocently pumping gas when the person next to me pulled up and started pumping gas. He then left his car and went into the store. He made a purchase and came back. His pump was still running, so he opened his cell phone and made a call. Still talking on the phone, he then got into his car (with its cloth seats) and sat there and talked on his phone.

Just as I was finishing up and pulling the nozzle out of my tank, he slid out of his vehicle and walked back to take the nozzle out of his tank.

Yikes!

Here ya go….a $10 gas card to the first person who can accurately and completely list all of the rules he broke. Gas card must be from BP, Speedway, Kroger Fuel, or Shell (all local to me).

    rules he broke:
    1. left vehicle while pumping gas
    2. made a call on cell phone
    3. got into his car while still pumping gas
    4. talking on phone while pumping gas

Hmm, I think it would be that he didn’t stay in sight by the vehicle the whole time he was pumping gas - he left and went into the store; he used a cell phone; he didn’t remain outside of the vehicle while pumping gas and then he even created static by sliding across his fabric seats right before he picked up the pump handle.

Well first off he left the vehicle with the gas still pumping. Then he talked on his cell phone which can cause static electricity to build up and can set off the gas. Same thing with the getting in and out of the car with cloth seats. If you do not ground yourself (touch something metal) you will carry a charge and could produce a spark that can set off an explosion.

Left the car with the pump running to go into the store, used his cell phone with the pump running, got into his car with the pump running … that freaks me out. My parents pump gas with the car running sometimes — it makes me want to jump out and run away.

Dang. What a doofus. I see people like that all the time though….including one that was SMOKING A CIGARETTE not too long ago. I didn’t even stop!

OK, so Deb was the first I assume to answer the quiz, but there was one thing you were not clear on so I’ll ask and answer: did he even turn off his car to pump the gas in the first place?

I was innocently pumping gas when the person next to me pulled up and started pumping gas.

So if he didn’t turn it off then that was rule breaker number one.
    2. left the car while still pumping
    3. used cell phone (could create sparks)
    4. got in to car, which is basically number 2 again
    5. the cloth seat sliding (static creation, possible spark problem like number 3) escalated by cell phone use.
If the answer to my question is no, then the rules broken were 2-5.

Some people just don’t care. DOH!

    Wow, some people are silly.
Didn’t the people at the petrol station say something to him?

I was sure you were going to say he was smoking! I don’t get how people can’t follow simple rules, especially those designed to SAVE YOUR LIFE.
