A TWIST ON THE SUNDAY MEME THEME

Posted by Karen on Mar 30 2008

I read somewhere on a blog (and I’m sorry I can’t remember where) about a blogger who sends greeting cards but does not write in them. She adds a piece of paper with her message on it instead. That way, the recipient can reuse the card. I thought that was pretty clever.

The only issue I’d have with it is that typically greeting cards come in odd size envelopes. So the recipient, in order to use the card again, would have to locate an envelope that would hold the card.

This got my brain working (and smoking). What if I designed a card that fit in a standard sized envelope?

You know me, I have a million and fifty-two things I need to get done, but everything came to a screeching halt so I could bring my idea to fruition. Keep in mind, I’m an amateur scrapbooker at best. I just took a piece of cardstock and cut it to size and folded it. I added some stickers and a “Thinking of You” cut out and I got this…..

And the inside…..

See that piece of extra paper? That’s where the message will go. Then the recipient can remove that, insert another piece of paper, and resend it on. I just used a piece of printer paper cut a bit smaller than the card.

The yellow message inside the card says, “This is a perpetual greeting card. Simply remove your personal message and write a new message on a clean sheet of paper. Slip your note into the card and sent it on its way. Fits a standard envelope.”

And the bottom yellow triangle has a note that says, “Sign the back of the card if you’d like.”

On the back I’ve started a list of recipients. And once the back gets full, there is a message to return the card to me. I think it’d be cool to get it back and have names from all over the country world!

I’m not planning on writing a book for my message. I never know what to say. I’ll just put a note on it that lets the recipient know I’m thinking of them. Short and sweet. Then, hopefully, that won’t stress the person out thinking they have to write a book. I think the faster this gets around to people, the more difference it will make.

If you are even just a bit crafty and you’d like to join me in my “Perpetual Greeting Card Meme” feel free to make one of your own and blog about it and send it out. You can include the following link in your card so people can check out the origin: http://tinyurl.com/2hf8ps

I’ve got to work on making a few more cards so I can send these out in all directions.

But first, I have to tackle at least ONE thing on my list of one million fifty-two things to do.

Very cute idea. I actually have trouble getting the notes mailed. I get them purchased and made out in time, but for some unknown reason, they never seem to make it into the mailbox until it’s too late and the event is already missed.

My nephew sent me a “Flat Stanley”. His class at school read a book about a very flat kid who mailed himself around the world and had adventures. The class made Flat Stanleys and mailed them to people they knew in different countries. I live in Japan, so I took his Flat Stanley to Universal Studios, Kyoto, and around where I live. After I few weeks, I sent it back to him with photos, stories of his adventures in Japan, and Japanese snacks he could share with his classmates.
The card is a great idea!!
