THE TALE WHICH WILL TAKE DAYS TO TELL…..
Posted by Karen on Apr 16 2008
Again, I know you are all waiting on pins and needles to hear about our adventures from this weekend, but in attempting to get it all down on paper screen, I realized the text, along with the pictures, would be way too long. And there is no point in telling some of the story without telling all of the story. So I hope you’ll bear with me as I use the next couple of days to tell the entire story.
Our first order of business was to head to Kings Island. The kids received Kings Island/Cedar Point passes for their birthdays, and it’s always good to have passes processed before the season opens to avoid lines. That was our motivation for making a day of it, because if we were going to have to drive an hour and fifteen minutes, we might as well hit more than one destination.
Mike wanted to get two episodes of Pediacast recorded before we left, so we got moving rather late–around 2:30. We drove for about an hour while listening to the Redboy Podcast, and Griddlecakes, and Comedy Forecast. We were in the middle of nowhere when the gas light came on so we started making plans to stop at the next exit. Right then Mike looked around frantically and then said one of the most profane things I’ve ever heard him say, “Oh crap!”
See, we were heading to get season passes processed. Which required the season pass vouchers. Which were at home. An hour away. Mike seems to believe it was my responsibility to get them, but as I’m not even getting a pass, I thought it was more his responsibility.
But now we’re on fumes and we can’t turn around and go home, we have to go at least 6 more miles to the nearest gas station. Mike thought since we were only “about half way there,” maybe after getting gas we should run back home for the vouchers. I explained to him we had been driving for an hour. It takes an hour and fifteen minutes to get there, so we might be just a bit more than half way there. Yeah, add 100 times the amount of sarcasm as you think necessary for that last statement, and then you’ll have an idea how I actually said it!
We made it to the gas station and strategized while the tank filled. I had a stroke of genius. I thought we should go to the Holiday Inn across the street and beg plead grovel ask to use the business center. The vouchers were emailed to Mike and if he could just get into his email and print the vouchers again, we’d be good to go. I told Mike I’d stay in the car. He could go in and ask.
Ten minutes later and look what Mike came out with….

Don’t get all excited. It’s not the vouchers. It’s simply the email that contained the link to the vouchers. See, once the vouchers are printed, they cannot be printed again. But at this point it was pretty much too late to go home and then make it back before Kings Island closed. So we figured we’d at least give it a shot. And if it didn’t work, we’d continue on with our fun plans and attempt season pass processing another time.
Surprisingly, I was not all whiney and mad. There was no use getting snippy, it wasn’t going to change the facts. Besides, I wanted to go into Ikea in a good mood! HA! And I knew at the very least, I’d get some yummy pizza out of it.
And God smiled on us. The email (with the confirmation number on it) was enough to verify purchase and new vouchers were printed. Here are the happy season pass holders….

Check out that sky. Beautiful, eh?
Then it was on to LaRosa’s and the best pizza….

After eating too much pizza…..
Well, you’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out what happens….

I’m so glad that you were just getting passes. That sky looks terrible!
(That totally reminds me of something me and Dr. D would do. We forget stuff ALL the time.)

So two lessons Dr. Mike should learn from this:
1) he who rides the rides is responsible for the paperwork
2) if you have outside errands do them first. You can record at any time (even in the middle of the night).
That pizza does look good!

Glad the email was enough to process your passes. I would have loved a season pass to Cedar Point or Kings Island as a kid. I loved when we got to go to Cedar Point. I once rode the train over and over for at least an hour maybe more. I was waiting for some friends to finish riding a ride I would not ride.

I can’t believe how well that worked out!! With our luck we would have had to go back another day……since we are not as computer literate as you and wouldn’t have thought of that EXCELLENT SUGGESTION of going over to the Holiday Inn!!! Wow, that was a stroke of genius!!!!! (Am WAITING for the 2nd installment!!!!!!!!!)

Oh now you’ve got me craving pizza. And it’s still not even close to lunchtime yet. Somehow my turkey/ham sandwich just isn’t going to cut it today, I think.
Man that sounds like something we would do. It’s awesome that they honored the e-mail though. You guys are lucky to be so close to King’s Island! I’ve only been there once (as a kid). We did go to Cedar Point many times, but it’s been years since I’ve been there either. Actually, now that I think about it - I don’t think I’ve been to an amusement park since I had kids. Somehow there’s something very wrong with that!
