BLOGGY GIVEAWAY #3–BIOKLEEN
Posted by Karen on Apr 20 2008

COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS CONTEST
It’s time again for Bloggy Giveaways! This time, I’m giving away more than one thing! That’s right, you heard me correctly.
But first….a note about my giveaways. These are only running from right now until Thursday, April 24th at 12:00 noon Ohio time. I leave for vacation early on Friday and I really don’t want to be randomly choosing winners from 30,000 feet in the air! If you win, you will be notified by email (make sure you leave your correct address), but your prize will not ship until after I get back home! If you have a problem waiting a couple of weeks, please do not enter. Also, read carefully who each specific contest is open to. Some will be international, some will be US and Canada, some will be US only. Part of this is because some of the items will be shipped directly to you from the company and some places have shipping restrictions beyond my control.
And one more thing. If you are new to my blog, and you are a parent (or know someone who is a parent) make sure you check out Pediacast. It’s a pediatric podcast for parents that discusses topics about children’s health issues. You can even call or write in questions you have! So, please, check it out.

This contest is open to US residents only.
Have I ever told you how much I love Biokleen products? Oh, I have. Remember here and here and here??
I have somewhat of a love affair with Biokleen. So much so I have a 5 gallon container of Biokleen Bac-Out, a 5 gallon container of Biokleen Liquid Laundry Detergent, and a 50 pound box of Biokleen Dishwashing Powder in my basement!
What’s so great about Biokleen products? Well, besides the fact that it works great and smells wonderfully, how about this….
It:
-is non-toxic
-contains no carcinogens
-is not corrosive to skin or eyes
-doesn’t contain any respiratory irritants
-is biodegradable
-is safe for aquatic life
-is packaged in recyclable containers
-is super concentrated so you use very little
The great people over at Biokleen have put together an awesome gift pack for one of you! This is an item you cannot buy anywhere in stores! It’s only available as a contest giveaway or promotion! It’ll give you a chance to test out several of the Biokleen products!

Here’s what’s included in the prize:
1 Biokleen bag made from 100% recycled natural cotton fibers
5 lb All Temperature Laundry Powder (50 loads worth!)
32 oz All Purpose Spray & Wipe Cleaner
32 oz Soy Cream Cleaner
32 oz Lemon Thyme Dishwash Liquid
16 oz Produce Wash
That’s a $40 value!
But I’m going to up the prize just a bit because there is no sense in using green cleaners with disposable paper towels! So included in this prize will be SIX of my homemade flannel wipes! You can see all of the great things they do here. These will be shipped separately from the Biokleen products. And the colors of the wipes will vary depending on what I can get sewn up! Trying to juggle homeschooling, prepping for vacation, and Bloggy Giveaways has been a challenge.
So, to enter….
Remember, you must live in the US to win this prize (Biokleen shipping restrictions)
Comment on this post making sure you leave a valid email address.
I never like comments that just say “Pick me” or “I’d love it” so to be eligible, in your comment please tell me the grossest thing you ever found at the back of your refrigerator and estimate how long it had been there.
And, as always, please enter only once.
And please, don’t forget to check out my other contest RIGHT HERE. There will be up to $150 up for grabs!

Hmm, the grossest thing I can think of was probably the sticky pink lemonade that spilled and sat there unnoticed for quite a awhile. Then again, it’s been a while since our fridge has been cleaned out, so who knows what’s lurking in there right now…

Sigh…ok, I can’t remember the grossest (I have to do a mental dump every so often so I can sleep LOL!) but the most recent. I had to toss bags of turnips, beets, and celery root that I had in the crisper from our CSA. Sob…tomorrow I have to go through the pantry and deal with the squashes in there that are holding the cereal hostage.

I am so excited about BioKleen, I have never used it but the enviormentally friendly consumer in me needs to take the plunge!
I love finding new earth and people friendly products!

So here’s the thing, I thought it would be fun to make powdered milk. It tasted great. I couldn’t tell the difference, neither could the kids. That is until a full gallon of regular milk sat in front of it then another and another for, I am ashamed to say, 2 months… then the difference was very clear…. the container had about an inch left of a flourecent green liquid… it smelled SO bad and as much as I love my tupperwear, I tossed the whole thing. There was no way I could use it again with the picture and smell memory that container held……still gagging thinking about it…

I think the most disgusting thing that I have found in my fridge - and I mean all over it to the point that I had to take everything out - and wash each jar and shelf - was the time that my husband put a package of meat on the top shelf and it leaked all over. When I tell you that I didn’t know how many nooks and crannies were in a fridge… OMG! It was totally disgusting. Every single item had to be removed and washed. I sure could have used some BioKleen “green” cleaner. The bleach I used made my fridge smell like a laundry room for weeks…
The other most disgusting thing I found was a package of cream cheese that got pushed to the back and forgotten for about a month.. it was hairy! Eeewww!!

Hmmm. The grossest thing I have ever had in my refrigerator. How about the fetal pig dissection that I did in Biology 100 in college. We were allowed to take our pigs home with us to study for the exam. I think it stayed there for about a week before I took it back to the college again and wrote the test.
on 21 Apr 2008 at 8:14 am 27 Mary T said …
OK, I’m not sure if I can top the worms or fetal pig. I remember dissecting a fetal pig in my biology class and that room stayed nasty for weeks. You could always tell what class was dissecting them on what days because of the aroma that spreads out the classroom and through the hallway. Yuck. I think our nastiest discovery was a bag of sliced turkey … or was it ham … for sandwiches. Do you remember the movie Gremlins after the one in the cage gets into the pupa stage and was all slimy … yeah, that’s what the meat reminded me of. A big chunk of slime. Yuck.

I had a small watermelon I had bought while very pregnant with my 2nd. I wanted “cold” watermelon in the 100 + heat we were having so I put it in the regridgerator. The next day, I went into labor. By the time I got home after an extended hospital stay due to complications, the watermelon had deflated and leaked all over the refridgerator. The whole fride had to be scrubbed down and the watermelon carcass was stuck on the shelf in a pool of festering pus.

The grossest thing found in my fridge will have to remain a mystery. When I first met my husband it had probably been years since the fridge had been properly cleaned. In the very deepest, darkest corner I found a tupperware dish that I did show him, but he had no clue what it started out life as.
Needless to say, I took over fridge cleaning duties from there on out (as much as I don’t like the job).

The back of my fridge always has something in it, but I try to clean it once a month so they never get that bad. Now my grossest story happened with our deep freezer. Our family went on a 10 day vacation and as we left, my husband turned off all the light switches, which most of us would do. When we walked into our home 10 days later it smelled like we hadn’t taken out the garbage, anyways, it turned out to be our deep freezer. The power for our deep freezer is connected to one of our light switches, so my husband had turned off the power. All our meat, juices, and premade meals were melted and rotten. DISGUSTING!!

I can’t remember the grossest thing, but I have to say the grossest thing is sometimes the seal around my fridge. I don’t know what drips into it to make it so nasty, but it is gross. But once I clean it it looks great, until next time I notice it…

OH, there is no grossest at my house! I have 7 kids. I always find something gross in the fridge. One time there was some nasty blackish brown sludge in the bottom of the fridge and I have no idea what it was, but it was bad. No odor, though, so that was good.
I would love to try these products out. We cloth diaper and use cloth wipes. We also have skin allergies, so dish soap, laundry soap, etc, has to be good for them. I’d love a diaper safe laundry soap that doesn’t cause a reaction in my childrens’ skin.

I would love to win this…I have been wanting to try their products after all your raves about them. This would be a great way to put them all to the test.
Well, since I don’t clean behind my refrigerator (ha!), when we moved last month there was about seven years worth of dust bunnies/cobwebs and one dead roach. Funny story, we had been worried about how Rebekah would take the move and since we drive by the old house everyday to take her sister to school, I thought I would be dealing with begging to go back home…to the old house. Well, after seeing the dust bunnies, cobwebs and roach…she says she doesn’t want to go back to the old house. In her words, “Ders piders in der!” Translation, “There’s spiders in there!” So, I guess NOT cleaning behind the refrigerator was the best thing!!

In my fridge? Nothing original — I’m very bad about leaving old onions in containers. For months. Man, that smell is reeeally hard to get out of containers too.
Better, though, is what I found in my purse one day in high school. I was sitting with a bunch of youth group friends rummaging through my purse when I came across a plastic sandwich bag containing what must have once been a sandwich. It must have been there for several months — it was just a lump of goo. Needless to say I was mortified, and I decided then and there that my purse was way too big.

Ewww… I’m trying to think, but I really don’t want to go there! I think it would have been a ziplock baggie of green ooze that had to have been in there for at least 5 or 6 months. My fiance and I were trying to figure out what it was, or had been. It wasn’t moldy, it was more of a neon color. I’ve also dug out bottles of stuff that were 2-3 years expired but those wern’t to gross since they were sealed off.

I can’t think of one single thing I could qualify as the absolute grossest thing I’ve pulled out of my fridge. I empty the fridge of forgotten items only once or twice a year, so you can imagine how I typically find some really gross stuff. But I have a short memory for that sort of thing, so I forget it pretty easily. But I for sure know that chili in a tupperware container, several months old, is completely nasty. As are a million other things.

Anytime I’m away my husband orders Chinese food (he thinks I don’t know this) anyway after visiting my mom for a few weeks I came home to find a carton of Chinese food hidden behind other items in the fridge . . . . I couldn’t bring myself to throw it out so he had to.

Well, I have to say that I have only found some minor problems in my own fridge…I guess that says a lot about the ability of my husband and children to eat all leftovers. However, a little over a year ago, I was suckered into cleaning an abandoned property belonging to my in-laws. Needless to say, the person that moved out was not a good housekeeper and may have been working on a serious chemical warfare project in the fridge. There were several unidentifible items.
Thank you for doing this giveaway.

I hate to admit what I found in my fridge several months ago. I was making room for my son’s first birthday cake. I moved several things around the frige and found a bottle. It was labeled with a date (so I know it was breast milk). It was in there for almost 7 months! It was solid and a wierd rainbow color. I felt sick. I grabbed it with a pair of rubber gloves, ran outside with the bottle and threw it in the garbage. I spent the rest of the day cleaning everything in there. Sooooo groooossss!

Probably a jar of fuzzy spaghetti sauce. We never use a whole jar and forget to label when it was opened. So who knew how long it had been in there. At least it was sealed so the smells/grossness couldn’t get out.

Really I think there have been too many. I now have clean out the fridge on my weekly “to do” list and that has helped. Probably some of the worst came from the produce drawer . . . slimmy, juicy, rotten celery?

Sigh. It’s always the shredded cheese that gets stuck way back in the fridge. The grossest state we’ve found the pkg in was when it was growing several types of mold, from bright green to neon orange - all in its buzzy glory. Yum.

I live with my in-laws right now and let’s just say we have different ideas of how often things should get cleaned and how to clean them so I thought the frig was getting gross so I cleaned it out (it broke the next month so now wishing I hadn’t spend the 4 hours lol) and I would have to say the grosses thing was a dead fly in the very back. If it didn’t have to be my frig I would say the exp. food from ‘94 I found in my g-parents frig in around 2004 lol.
Awesome giveaway, thanks! Also thanks for doing the March Of Dimes giveaway, I’m very active in all kinds of awareness and I was a preme so it’s a cause I like.

Wow, that is so cool. I am having a hard time thinking of the grossest thing from my fridge but I do remember the grossest thing I found in my pantry. We lived in an apartment and had carpet in the pantry and one day it smelled awful. We some old, old, old potatos back in the bottom of the pantry that had turned to mush and left this horrible nasty smelling liquid goo all over the carpet. That was a nasty stain. I also recollect the time as a kid when I put my easter egg basket away in the closet only to find a hard boiled eggs had been left in one of the plastic eggs several WEEKS later. You can imagine the smell.

Okay Karen - can I start by saying that you asked . . .
I don’t know if you remember when I bought Murphy (Golden Endings Rescue - GREAT organization BTW) - but I was about 6 months pregnant with Carter. Since he was coming from a rescue we took him to the vet the same week for a checkup. They asked if we brought in a stool sample - of course, I hadn’t. They said that was fine just drop one off at my convenience. So later that night I put our “sample” in a baggy in the fridge for Shawn to drop off on his way to work the next morning. Great right? Well it didn’t happen - that little baggy somehow worked its way to the back of the fridge and was promptly forgotten. Fast forward about 2 1/2 to 3 MONTHS - I was nesting in preparation for Carter’s grand arrival and decided to empty every cabinet, drawer, fridge, receptacle in the kitchen and clean, clean, clean. I found it and it wasn’t pretty but WAS - thankfully - in an airtight baggy and not leaking any odors YET!
Hey - you asked! And in my defense I did have three other kids, new dog, forgetful husband and pregnancy hormones . . . :o)

You are so sweet. Thank you I am so glad i found this site. BioKleen. And you are including 6 of your wipes - very kind.
Grossest: I hope you wlll except this. It was in the frig until hubby, but we blame the dog for doing this, put it on top of the frig as he was looking for a snack. A small steak that were defrosting in a plastic container. Now it became steak decomposing on the frig until I went looking in the frig. Could not find the steak and figured hubby or son must have cooked it up and eat it. This is common.
So I made something else for dinner.
Forgot that if they had eaten it then I should have seen the plastic-ware in the dishwasher.
A full day or so later the plastic top blow and the smell of decaying flesh … Gray meat, gray blood, and the smell of …ICK…
Very gross.
Since hubby has put other item on top of frig I did not think son had done it. Of course for peace in family we blamed the dog. Dog likes to put milk on top but that is easy to see since it is tall. the plastic container was flat and short.
Very very gross nad has stuck in my mind for years.

Ooh, that’s a hard one. I’m very picky about cleaning out the fridge and sometimes throw things out even before they look that bad. Ok, well this wasn’t found in my fridge, but it’s even worse. My friend came over with her kids when my daughter was a couple of months old, and made us dinner. She brought everything from home, and put it together and cooked it here. She ended up leaving some of her mixing bowls and stuff here, so I put them in my pantry to give to her next time I saw her. Well, after several weeks, we couldn’t figure out what smelled bad in the pantry, even after searching several times to see if something was left in there rotting. Yup, you guessed it, one of the containers still had food in it, I thought she had washed the bowls before she left that night. I ended up giving it back to her, and it wasn’t until they were driving home that her husband opened the container to find disgusting, moldy chicken salad. I’m not sure if they threw the bowl out or actually cleaned it, but she will never let me forget that one.
