SUMMARIZING TWO WEEKS IN ONE POST
Posted by Karen on May 14 2008
I thought I’d take a few moments and give you a synopsis of my trip. I feel like I’ve been having trouble stringing two sentences together lately without making grammatical mistakes, so let me give you the run down in list form….
The good:
Spending two weeks without cooking or cleaning
Enjoying my family without any other responsibilities and just having f.u.n!
Cruising with Mark and Mary and enjoying them as table mates during dinner. And living by the motto “We may not be the best dressed table, but we’ll be having the most fun!”

Getting away from grey, cloudy, rainy Ohio and seeing the sunshine
Feeling the sunshine soak through to my bones
Spending time with Mike’s brother and learning some of the backstage happenings of Disney
Recognizing one of the hotel’s guest service employees as being our assistant server from our May 2004 cruise (one we had just discussed as being one of our best ever assistant servers) and having her recognize us! Here she is with the kids in 2004

And here they are now….

Doing absolutely crazy things like deciding to catch the next bus that pulls into the bus stop and eat dinner wherever it drops us off

And man, that flatbread was worth the spontaneous trip!

The bad:
Gaining weight. Not sure how much but I think it’s all in the middle of me
Having to come home on Mother’s Day. That’s not fair
Finding out that changing the camera settings will totally fill up a 2GB memory card before the vacation is half over
Realizing that some of those changes to the camera settings causes some of your pictures to look pixelated and wonky

Letting them know at the front desk that your clothes dryer doesn’t work right. Then having to let them know the next day that while the dryer is now working, the washer is leaking all over the floor.
Picking up a rental car at the port that was dirty and only had 1/2 a tank of gas. And was sporting a nasty looking warning light. Luckily the iPhone saved the day as I googled “Toyota Highlander warning light” and found out it was the low tire pressure light and found out how to reset it. It never came back on.
The ugly:
Coming to the realization that a port hole room doesn’t satisfy Mike as much as a verandah room

Not finding out until we got to the airport that there is now a $25 per bag charge for any bag over 1 per person. There were 4 of us. We had 8 bags. The change went into effect after we had left home and we couldn’t convince them that we should be grandfathered into the old rule. Ouch.
Leaving Orlando’s sun….

And landing in Ohio’s clouds and rain

Finding out after we landed that our flight path took us 5 miles from a sighted funnel cloud and we landed during a tornado warning.
And now, just because it’s my blog and I can, I’m going to share with you a few of my favorite pictures from the trip….

Nick has always been very concerned about flight safety

Very “Jack and Rose-ish”

Not so “Jack and Rose-ish”

Will the real Goofy please stand up?

Alfred Hitchcock’s worst nightmare!

She ordered and ate lobster! Wow!

Nick being……well….Nick!

Nick looking like he’s in front of a backdrop. He’s not.

Neither is KT.

Our view at the Lodge. Ahhhhhh.

Not my kids, but I just loved how they were all tangled and sound asleep.

Love this shot of Nick. Mad at myself because it’s one of the wonky pictures.

It looks like a WONDERFUL trip. What memories! How scary to land that close to a tornado.

LOL! I did think that was a backdrop. I’m sorry to hear about your camera!
We went with ocean view instead of balcony this time, too, and I’m already starting to regret it. argh.
Hopefully I’ll have equally awesome pictures to share!

What great memories!! Love the picture of KT and Nick in “formal wear!” And that flatbread….Yummy looking. In fact you have a lot of wonderful pictures. Congratulations to KT for being adventurous in trying a new food (lobster). Does she like it as much as you do? And Nick’s hat is the coolest! Am glad to have you back, and envious, as well. Can’t wait to go, too!

Karen, send an e-mail to the airline’s executives demanding that they refund your $25 per bag. If you write the letter convincingly enough and send it to the right people, they’ll probably refund you:

Wow!!! Kids all dressed up for dinner and looking WONDERFUL!!!
Didn’t see pictures of you and Dr. Mike in your formal wear…
And while you were gone stamps went up another penny!!
(Actually on the 12th).
Isn’t is amazing how kids can sleep in the oddest positions? Yet, if you sleep that way…stick neck, aching back, sore shoulders, on and on…..
Glad you enjoyed the trip…hope our weather gets better sooner.

Wow!!! The trip was a success! I love the pictures! I’m so sorry that they wouldn’t grandfather you in on the luggage situation. How dreadful!!
Blessings!

I disagree. In this post she has 9 good things, and 11 bad and ugly things. I think the vacation was better then that!
(And I don’t appreciate being made fun of while I was on vacation for having a little grammar mistake. And to think I respected this blog. humph. It really hurt my feelings to have it brought up over and over again.
