Parker

You’ve heard me mention Parker before. He’s a tough little guy that in his short life has experienced struggles beyond belief. He has Down Syndrome, a tethered spinal cord, failure to thrive, bowel obstruction, and pulmonary hypertension. He requires a tracheotomy, a colostomy, and special (and very expensive) formula.

As if the stress of having a special needs child isn’t challenging enough, Parker’s parents are having to deal with hospitals demanding the money for his care. Oh, sure, I’m all for hospitals getting their fair share, but the sad part is, Parker has insurance. And his parents have tried their best to be responsible with their bills. So now the hospital expects them to continue to pay. If Parker didn’t have insurance, or if those early bills had gone unpaid, Parker would qualify for free care.

And now Parker is facing an extensive surgery tomorrow to fix his bowel obstruction. Which means more bills will flood in.

I’ve pondered what I could do to raise funds for this family, but my web design skills are lacking non-existant. So I was ecstatic to see that Michelle from Down Blogger had put together a webpage and fundraiser for Parker!

It’s called Pages4Parker and the idea is scrapbookers can make pre-made pages that will be sold on ebay to benefit Parker’s medical fund.

Ok, that’s all well and good, but if any of you have seen my scrapbooking skills, you’ll know my pages would bring in about twenty-five cents. The great news is, they are opening it up to all crafters! That I can handle.

I’m going to send in some flannel wipes. And a framed cross stitch piece for the cause. I challenge you–scrapbookers, knitters, cross-stitchers, doll makers, decoupagers, jewelry makers, beaders, quilters–to donate something to Pages4Parker. For details about the who/what/where/when/how of it, click here.

Parker has spread such love around the internet with his sweet little face and his brave disposition. Help him continue to work his magic and spread the news about this far and wide.

I am knitting something up right now! I saw this a few days ago and immediately cast on. I won the yarn. so I figure it is good Karma to use it to help out such a cute little boy.
