ONE MAN’S JUNK…..
Posted by Karen on Jul 14 2008
Well, the weekend came and went. And I survived. I had 10 relatives here fighting over my crap treasures. This was the weekend of my free garage sale. I have to clear something up….this was not a garage sale open to the public. No, instead it was by invite only. And my family members were the only ones to get invites. My original plan was to have them pick through my stuff, and then invite my neighbors to pick through what was left. But honestly….there isn’t much left.
Of course, being the good blogger I am, I photo-documented the day.
Here is my brother checking out a CD rack.
And three people examining the FlipFolds. Unfortunately I only had two.

Thank goodness this wasn’t open to the public because unsuspecting people would have seen my dad trying to hog all of the personal hygiene items. See how tight his grip is on those pantyliners?

Some found the perfect items…..like the hat Corbin found….

And the princess tiara for Evie….

And the kitty for Cody….

Unfortunately the kitty wasn’t for “sale.” So Cody had to find his second favorite item…

In the end the scavengers my family filled up their vehicles. Like the back of this suburban…

(and no, I wasn’t giving away Vodka. That was just the box!)
And the back of this pick-up truck….

And the inside of the pick-up truck….

And the trunk and back seat of this car….

And the trunk of this car….(car seats were hogging the back seat)

And the back of an SUV (not pictured).
My garage looked like this near the end of the scavenging….

It wasn’t too long ago when it looked like this….

And that wasn’t even the worst of it. Actually, it was MORE full when my family descended upon it. So full we had to put some of the stuff in our family room in order to make aisles! As if that wasn’t enough, as people cleared out areas, Mike and I pulled more items out of the house and took them into the garage. So many, in fact, there is a U-Haul rental and another SUV trip planned to pick up the rest! The funniest thing is I was receiving calls after they left that went something like this, “Hi, it’s me. We made it home. Remember that (fill in the blank) you have in your garage? Can you save it for me?”
Fire up that U-Haul!
Quickly before “buyers” remorse kicks in!!

What a great idea. I had to look up what a ‘FlipFold’ was, did you ever use it?
This wouldn’t work for us as there are only the 2 of us in this State, my parents and sister are in Adelaide, South Australia and my brother and his family are in Cairns, North East Queensland.
Have a great day.
Lots of Love Carolynn

I didn’t know what a FlipFold was, either. It looks like a great tool for teaching kids how to fold clothes, but I can’t imagine trying to use it for an entire load of laundry — when I usually do three loads at once!!! I bet you could have eBayed most of that and paid off Dr. Mike’s student loan!!! LOL… just kidding. Looks like you guys had fun, though.

LOL!! That’s hilarious!!!
My favorite part is that they took it all… My family would have come over, had a cup of coffee and a muffin and left without taking anything. (Probably because their garages look like yours!)

The “buyers” remorse kicked in when I had to find a place for all the crap … uh … treasures we ended up with. I’m still working on it and the rest of the stuff is in the bed of that pick-up so even when I’m done, I’m not done. But, one man’s junk is another’s treasure. Better to get some more use out of them before they ended up in the landfill!

That was a great idea. People came away with new things and it looks like every one enjoyed themselves (although I would love to see how the panti liners were used).

Awesome garage sale! I especially like Evie’s tiara
What a little cutie she is.
I did note that you weren’t parting with Mo. Good choice. Though I had to do a double take since I thought Cody was holding Miss Sophia!! Did he end up liking his second choice??

Couldn’t you have stayed in FL a few more days? I need help to empty my kitchen tonight so demolition can start on Thursday.
Hmm… no kitchen, husband 3000 miles away… guess that means we’re eating out til the renovation is done!!!!

We had too much fun!!
Just emptied two (three?) boxes before work this morning.
Found two boxes of Mary’s (T)that need to go to her. Plus I have her cabinet and the desk/chair. Got lots of stuff for Cody. Got all the “noisy toys” at my house. Took Cody for a few hours that night and papa and him played in the sandbox with his new sand “treasures”.
Too bad it rained and spoiled the swim party.

Oh my! That’s great that you got rid of so much stuff, but just passing it along to family…I don’t know about that!

Doesn’t it feel wonderful to purge??!! I just did all the girls’ things over the last week and man, it feels awesome! The rest of the house may have to wait until fall, though. I like the idea of doing an invites-only, free rummage event before the actual open-to-the-public sale.

I love this idea. Not sure if any of my family members would be interested but a friends sale might be good.
