THE DREAM HOUSE

Posted by Karen on Jul 17 2008

So you know we’re moving and leaving #2. But where will we end up? Well, a lot depends on what happens with #2.

Because the house we love, the house I showed you the other day, that is a spec home. And not just any spec home, it has served as the model home and sales center. So that means upgrades galore. Like wood floors. And upgraded cabinets. And all the bells and whistles. And it is for sale. But it could sell at any time.

So #2 needs to sell soon so we can put in an offer on that home. Cuz we aren’t rolling in dough and we can’t do two mortgages for long.

Now, the second best situation is this….the model home sells (sniff, sniff) and we have to rent for awhile. That allows a little extra time to sell #2. And we probably could go into contract to build the same home minus most of the upgrades. There are advantages to that. For example, we could pick our lot and not be stuck on the lot the model home is on. And we could pick our colors and styles and upgrades. Another benefit of building our own is KT’s room would have a full bath instead of a half-bath. So that’d be cool. The downfall is we won’t be able to afford the high end upgrades the model has.

So we’re doing the realty dance. And it’s not a dance I’m particularly fond of.

By request, here is the link to the virtual tour of the model home. Of course, this is decorated in true “model home” style. Try to imagine it with our furniture. HA!

I hope the Lord works it out for you. If not, just remember that there is some reason that He doesn’t want you to have that house!

    Blessings :)

I’m not a fan of that shade of green, but those dark wood floors are awesome!

Good luck selling your current place.

I hope that it all works out for you. It is a tough market but that may mean that the model home will still be around when you want it.

Have you checked into a Bridge Loan? (I don’t know how that works all the way from OH to FL…)

How quickly do you have to find somewhere down there?

Oh hell no! That’s MY house! You can’t have it! Now…I just need to figure out how to bring it to Colorado and scrape off the one I have. ;)
    A wine cellar? LUCKY!
A pool? Near a wine cellar? Double lucky!
But, you know, if you have to build your own, it’s not so bad. You get to pick and choose what you want in your house (go for the dark wood floors–yummy!), and make it completely yours. Either way, you’re going to win. And make me totally jealous in the process. ;)

I’m so jealous. Thanks for posting that link. I can now live vicariously through you and dream of that house when I’m digging out of 2 feet of snow in Chicago in a couple months. Good luck and I hope everything goes quickly for you guys!

I hope your home sells quickly! And that you are able to get the mega-upgraded model home that you want, even if poor KT will have to suffer with only a half-bath. ;)

The good news is that I heard that Florida is one of the worst states right now with selling homes, so that means they’re not moving so that model could stick around for a little while!! It is gorgous! I can almost smell Florida looking at the pictures… maybe I’m just crazy! Good luck, and no matter what happens the Florida sun has to be better than the Ohio gray you all talk about so much.

I think your furniture would fit better. I could live on the lanai!!! Please, please, fit me into your suitcases.
Lovely, wonderful…looks like lots of storage (too bad you can’t “open doors” on the virtual tour. OMG! That master bath…I could live there too…
The pool is awesome too and so many rooms they have to give them names…kitchen1/media room/study…HEY…turn them all into bedrooms and rent them out…like a time share..
    Hope your house sells quickly..

I have to admit, I’ve never really had house envy. Just house dreams. But my goodness, that house is divine, gorgeous, and I’ll take it! Think they would move it to Colorado? Pool and all, it’s been in the high 90’s this past week, I could use a glorious pool, too!

We decided to move too! I agonized over the decision. And we are only moving down the street! I’m trying to get our house ready to put on the market. A free garage sale is a great idea. Unfortunately we don’t have any family members with children, so they don’t want our cra..treasures. Your dream house looks fantastic. What a bold move, to follow your dreams.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

And I did thank you for the amazing and organic popcorn, didn’t I?

I’ll be getting the other amazing items up on Parker Doodles when I have a few minutes. :)

    Wow, that house is beautiful!

But I’m going to be contrarian once more and say that a benefit of choosing your own finishes would be to *not* have the dark floors. They are beautiful, but in 10 years or so they will scream 2008, and floors are very expensive and inconvenient to replace. Better to choose something more neutral and timeless, like clear-finished oak. I also really like smoked bamboo. Very environmentally sensitive, and a very interesting, homogenous grain.

Also, I wouldn’t wish raised panel, white kitchen cabinets on my worst enemy (ok, maybe my *worst*). So finicky to clean, and they show everything. Again, better to choose a neutral colour, or ideally wood, in my opinion. And flat.

So, I’d take a different house regardless of whether that one sells first. Now, wouldn’t that make you feel in control of your own destiny?
