I HURT MYSELF IN THE STRANGEST OF WAYS

Posted by Karen on Aug 15 2008

Yesterday I was minding my own business when my elbow suddenly started to hurt. Not just a little hurt, but some pretty bad pain. It didn’t hurt if I held it still, but when I tried to straighten it, or pick up something heavier than my coffee mug, or when I tried to use my arm to support any sort of weight, it hurt.

It hurt enough that I wondered how I broke my elbow. I didn’t remember a fall (I don’t drink that much wine that I’d forget), I didn’t remember whacking it. It was a mystery.

So all day I dealt with this arm. I took Motrin. I complained to Mike via email. I cursed myself for not having an Ace wrap and for not being as prepared as my mom always was.

Finally, Mike came home from work and looked at it. It wasn’t red, swollen, twisted, misaligned. Nothing. He asked me what I did to it. Nothing. He asked me if I’ve been doing any sort of repetitive motion with that elbow. Hmmm, scrubbing floors. No. Vacuuming. No. Washing windows. No.

Oh, wait a second. Throwing the ball for the dog. I’ve done a LOT of that lately. So I put my arm through the motions of throwing a ball. Ouch! That’s it!

See this sweet little face?

Maddie

Yup, she is the reason for me getting the dreaded Squeaky Ball Elbow.

I never got these ailments in my twenties.

Just think… once you move to Florida and have a Florida-sized backyard, you certainly won’t need to ever throw a ball that hard again!!!

Ouch! I get repetitive stress injuries from knitting sometimes. Right now I am having to be very careful of my thumbs.

But it was worth it, wasn’t it? Making a cute little puppy dog happy was worth the pain and you know it. :)

The next time you need an Ace Wrap get over here. I have 5,000,583 of them just sitting around taking up space.

    Really.

Who knew that after you opened a box from the medical supply place they absolutely won’t allow a return…..even if you never ordered the stuff in the first place.

    arrgh.

Hope your elbow is feeling better.

    What a lovely looking dog.

I spent about 4 hours on Saturday and 3 or so on Sunday pulling weeds (I’m just getting over a bought of pneumonia, which has taken me weeks to even begin to turn the corner). The weeds had reached about knee height so really needed to be pulled. What a difference it makes when you can suddenly see all those bulbs you planted starting to show, some have started to flower already so by Spring it should be an amazing display. The aroma from the Freesias is o strong I’m surprised you cant’e smell them from where you are. However when I got up yesterday and today I am so stiff and sore I think I ill give it a couple of days before finishing off the weeding.

It’s amazing how stiff and sore you get doing what you have always considered as simple tasks, a few years ago I could have done the weeding and gardening for hours and not even notice. Now I can’t even vaccuum without my poor old back screaming at me. Are there any rejuvinating ‘pills’ out there we can take to keep us youngas the same jobs still need doing.

Take Care, how is the house drams coming along?
Lots of Love Carolynn xxxx :-)

LOL! Oh yes, the aches and pains seem to have doubled since I was in my 20’s too. Can’t say that I’ve had any that have had such a cute cause though! :)
