Late to listening to this episode, I just wanted to commend your honesty and candid discussion on critical analysis of research. This discussion inspired me out of my rut of listening to sound bite parenting advice out of magazines and from (well meaning) family members. Grad school taught me this necessary life skill, but perhaps sleep deprivation has kept me from applying it to raising my son. In a rut no more. Thanks!

Glad I could help, Jessica! Thank you for listening and for the nice comment.

Dr. Mike,

Thank you for talking about the Roller Shoes. One thing I would like to add is that it is very important for parents to watch their children who are wearing them in stores. When I was 9 months pregnant I was almost knocked down by a child skating around a store. I would hate for any skating child to hurt themselves or anyone else.

Dr. Mike, I actually was glad to hear you rant about the lost art of critical thinking! It seems that with the abundance of available information, people assume that all "professional" observations are valid and don't do a common sense analysis of the report. Also, having recently taken a couple graduate level statistics classes, I was also glad to hear you talk about the importance of a large sample size in a study with statistically significant results. I'm a new listener (of about a month) and don't know your audience, but I hope your tangent wasn't lost on the lay listener. Your point is an important one for new parents.
