This is not hate mail, but I would love to add something to the email that you received about the 8 month old that won’t play on his own. One thing that you didn’t mention, for the baby that just can’t be consoled is babywearing. Some babies just need to be held all the time. And the options are endless! There are all sorts to pick from that are comfortable for the parent & child. My daughter is 10 months and while she is pretty good about playing by herself, she has her moments and they are usually when I need to get something done around the house. I even use a Kozy Carrier while I’m volunteering at my older daughters preschool class. But having a baby close to you and up at a level where they can see what is going on, can help boost their sense of security. I can get household chores done, move around and the little one is pretty content, if not passed out. :)
There are so many benefits to babywearing that I think that could be an excellent topic for future podcasts.
Also, another quick tip. For trying to get a shower,if the bouncy seat next to the shower(in clear view of you) doesn’t work, I’ve taken my little one in the shower with me. She loves it! (So did my first).
And I either put her in a tub seat at the back of the tub so I can get cleaned up or back in the bouncy seat with a towel on it.
Being a working Mom, I try to spend as much time with my little ones, and it can be stressful. So I strive for quality time where everyone is happy.
    I’ll include some helpful websites.

Once again, I love the show & the rants!

Sorry, just had to add one more link for reference:

I would like to introduce you to a style of parenting which will bring out the best in your baby and yourself. During my thirty years as a pediatrician, parents in our practice would often say, “As long as I carry my baby she’s content.” After years of watching a whole parade of babywearers we dubbed these thriving infants “sling babies.” Many kids ago we noticed that the more we carried our babies the less they cried. With each baby, we began carrying them more and more. By the time baby number six, Mathew, entered the family we wanted to become more experienced at wearing our babies.

    More on website. :)

    Hi Dr. Mike:
Excellent podcast, as always. I wanted to write in and comment on the email you received about how you have changed.
I think it took a lot of guts to share that. I have been a loyal listener since the start and personally I have not detected any change. People forget that this is a volunteer service and a gift to all of us. You do not have to share your valuable time and wisdom with us yet each week you do. I am very grateful for that. I have learned a great deal from your show as I am sure many others have. I am a better more knowledgeable parent because of it. I thank you for sharing with us your time, expertise, and knowledge.
Secondly, I happen to like the fact you have your opinions. As you said it is your podcast and you have the right to share those opinions. We do not have to agree but maybe it will give us something to ponder or even learn from by listening to the other side…or maybe even to validated our own. But needless to say it is great that you have your beliefs and that you share your thoughts on the various topics of discussion.
I for one would be worried if your were not passionate about what your do and what you study. That is what drives you and I am sure makes you very good at what you do.
    Keep up the good work.
    Heather (from Bangkok)
