Hi, Dr. Mike:
Just listened to your show #131 and I wanted to commend you. I thought the answer you gave to the mom of the little girl with anxiety was exceptional. You really gave her a lot of issues to think about and to pursue, and a very realistic look at what treatment might look like. It’s tough dealing with psych issues with kids, and your common-sense approach was excellent. Kudos!
Also, just want to say good luck with the move, and I hope you and your family enjoy your new home in Florida!
Take care,
Adena in Boston

As I was listening, I was really hoping that Dr. Mike would step out of the routine answers and address how diet and specifically food sensitivities can affect mood and behavior especially those related to ADD and ADHD. When will medical education and research emphasize the importance of nutrition? How long will it take them to recognize the affect food allergies and sensitivities contribute to behavior and mental health issues in children? When will they begin to offer diet alternatives before or along with prescribing a medication?
I can hear the protestations now, “But parents are too busy, they don’t have time to make those diet modifications; I can’t spend that much time with patients for education, I have too many to see, it costs too much to hire a nutritionist; parents expect a quick fix that a medication can offer, etc.”
And we wonder why our healthcare system is broken.
Parents, we must require more from our health providers. Listen to your intuition, question, inquire, ask lots of questions, do your research…
